Google has rolled out a dedicated battery performance program targeting Pixel 6a users who reported overheating and fast battery drain issues over the past month. The company announced a two-part support initiative: an automatic Android 16 software update and free battery replacement for qualifying devices.

Starting July 8, Pixel 6a smartphones labeled as impacted—particularly those with over 400 charge cycles—will receive a mandatory system update. This new Android 16 version introduces enhanced battery management features to improve device longevity and day-to-day reliability.

Google stated that specific units would also be eligible for a complimentary battery replacement. Affected users can visit authorized service centers or apply for reimbursement of up to $150 depending on region-specific exchange rates.

To participate, users must undergo a two-step verification process: eligibility confirmation and a physical inspection. Devices showing signs of water exposure, deep scratches, punctures, or other external damage may be deemed ineligible for the replacement offer. Google clarified that additional charges might apply if out-of-warranty damage, such as screen cracks, is found.

The free battery replacement service is scheduled to begin July 21 across service centers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Singapore, and India.

Google highlighted that each eligible Pixel 6a unit will only be allowed one free battery replacement under this program.
